You know a lot of times a person could be in a tough situation in life.
He feels that he’s in a dark place because in life many things could be taken away from us; our money, rights, liberty, freedom, etc. But there is one thing that can never be taken away from us, and that is what the Maccabees taught us in the story of Hanukkah.
They were in a terrible situation, almost all their rights were taken away. But one thing was not, and that is their hope, their belief, that one day we will overcome. One day, a light will shine through the darkness.

That’s why we celebrate Hanukkah in the darkest time of the year. It’s in the middle of the winter, where the nights are the longest.
It’s at the end of the month where you can’t even see the moon in the sky.
And we light the Menorah in a low place.
All to symbolize that from the places of darkness, that’s where we light our special light, our light of hope that one day light will shine and we will have a brighter future. Amen!
